10 Things to do on Black Friday besides shop.
- Host a family movie day. Invite friends and neighbors or just your family. Break out the popcorn and movie snacks and enjoy a movie holiday theme or otherwise.
- Decorate a gingerbread house. One of my favorite holiday traditions. The kids have a blast creating their “dream” candy home. In my house we make several small houses so each child can decorate their own.
- Make an advent calendar. I can get lost on Pinterest looking up DIY advent calendars. There are so many to chose from, we may be making several this year.
- Take a hike. According to the news, the weather is going to be chilly, but beautiful. Bundle up in layers and enjoy some of the fabulous trails around us. This may be the perfect day to explore.
- Decorate your house. Once Thanksgiving is over it's no holds barred on Christmas. Break out all the decor and enjoy the start of Christmas.
- Cut down your own Christmas tree. Enjoy walking through the rows of trees with the family and cutting the perfect one. This is one of my favorite childhood memories.
- Purge books, clothes, and toys. Make room for all the new stuff Santa will bring this year and donate all the outgrown, no longer used stuff in your house.
- Kick off the holidays with some lights. There are some really great places to see Christmas displays and lights throughout the Valley. Check out the calendar for the latest lighting ceremonies.
- Adopt a family or choose an angel from the tree. There are so many places that have ange or gifting trees. Take your family and pick out someone to get a special gift for.
- Welcome your Elf on the Shelf or start planning his nightly visits. Some families bring out their elves in Black Friday, others wait until December first. Regardless of when he arrives it's best to start planning to keep it fun. I mark my personal calendar his moves and set an reminder for the evening so I don't forget.
